Hilda Haxmeier, 104, of Dubuque, passed away Friday, October 14, 2016, at Manor Care.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 4:00 p.m. today at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, with Rev. Gabriel Anderson officiating. Burial will be in St. Catherine Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 17th. Friends may call from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church.

Hilda was born February 18, 1912, in LaMotte, IA, daughter of Michael and Susan (Kremer) Mueller. She married Arnold Haxmeier on June 30, 1936, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, LaMotte, IA. He preceded her in death on March 11, 1984.

Hilda enjoyed playing cards, reading books, putting puzzles together and watching the Chicago Cubs. She liked spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was a member of St. Joseph the Worker parish and St. Joseph the Worker Senior Citizens Pot Luck and Card Club. For many years, she helped with funeral dinners at St. Joseph’s. She was a parishioner of St. Catherine’s parish for 37 years. For many of those years she decorated the altars with her own flowers. She was an avid flower and vegetable gardener.

Her culinary skills were remarkable. Holidays won’t be the same without Hilda’s pies. She enjoyed speaking Luxembourg with old friends and anyone else who could speak the Luxembourg dialect. Her memory was extraordinary. She was the person people would go to for information about the history of families from LaMotte, St. Theresa’s and St. Catherine’s. Hilda loved her church and the rosary.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary Haas and Joan (Rudy) Bellmann, and a son, William ”Bill” Haxmeier, all of Dubuque; six grandchildren, Deborah Haas, Jeffrey (Ann) Haas, Julie (John) Bartlett, Jenifer (Syrus) Esau, June Haas and Robert Bellmann; nine great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Mueller, Veronica Hanson and Evelyn (Melvin) Lenz, of Dubuque.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks for all the prayers and well wishes extended to Hilda during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church.
